Qualifications:

• Grade 12 education or equivalent
  
• 18 years of age or older
  
• Proficient and confident in reading and writing
  
• Patient, enthusiastic, creative
  
• Supportive, flexible, dependable, non-judgmental
  Tutors will be asked to take a Police Security Check and will be interviewed by the coordinator. References will be checked
  

Responsibilities:

• Attend tutor orientation/training
  
• Attend in-service training
  
• Respect and maintain confidentiality of student
  
• Plan and instruct individualized, relevant lessons
  
• Involve learner in choosing materials and evaluating lessons
  
• Write and sign a contract with your student detailing goals of tutoring
  
• Provide Literacy Coordinator with accurate documentation (tutoring hours, activities, student progress etc.) every 2 months.
  
• Make initial call to student to set up meeting
  
• Notify student if unable to attend tutoring, for whatever reason
  
• Notify Literacy Coordinator of any problems or of termination of lessons
